You probably wondered where I went. It's been a roller coaster past couple months. First, we all get lost in the holidays. It was great. Come January I started working with a friend in a great program called "Dining With Diabetes." She does the education and I do the culinary demonstrations, two sessions each week. I love it!
Talk about really influencing people's lives. We hear the results the very next week when they return. It is amazing how misinformed people are about diabetes. They are like little sponges soaking up the new knowledge.
The program starts with an information session. Glucose is checked along with blood pressure. Following that there are four weekly sessions all balanced with education, cooking demonstration and sampling - lots of sampling! They are given a pedometer and actively participate in exercise at their level and encourages to do so regularly.
Participants can contact the educator when they have questions. There is even a three-month follow up session when I prepare a special meal in celebration of their success and they learn updates.
Not sure of the oldest member, but one handsome fellow told me he was 90! If you haven't seen this your area check out Mercer (PA) County Cooperative Extension for Dining With Diabetes.
